Pool Supplies For Expert Maintenance

Before we get to the fun, we have to focus on creating a clean, safe environment for you and your loved ones to enjoy.

With the right pool supplies, you can make your pool maintenance routine much easier, and if you go so far as embracing the advanced technology hitting the market, you can make it nearly effortless!

Let’s find out which supplies you already have, and what items you may need to consider including in your pool house.

pH Test Strips and Water Treatment Products

First and foremost, let’s focus on your water quality.

The water in your pool needs to maintain a precise balance in pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels. This ensures it’s safe to dive into without the risk of red eyes, irritated skin, or even rashes occurring.

In order to determine these levels, you’ll need to use a water test kit, or pH test strips.

Once you know where these levels are currently sitting, you can add the needed products to bring them back to their ideal levels, such as pH up or down, alkalinity up, and your sanitizer.

So, what should these levels be?

The ideal levels for pH and alkalinity are as follows:

pH: 7.4 and 7.6

ALKALINITY: between 100 and 130 ppm

Your sanitizer levels, however, will depend on the sanitizer you’re using. With chlorine being the most commonly used option, and bromine being a close second, we’ll provide the levels for either of these options below.

CHLORINE: between 1 and 3 ppm, with 3 pm being the most ideal

BROMINE: 3 and 5 ppm

Some other water treatment products you should include are:

  • Calcium hardness increaser
  • Stain remover
  • Algaecide
  • Shock

Now that you’ve got balanced water, it’s time to pull out those supplies to maintain its cleanliness!

Surface Skimmer With Telescopic Pole

Whether you keep your pool covered or not, there’s always going to come a time when you need to skim some debris off the surface of your water.

This could be things like bugs, leaves, or dirt and grass.

While any skimmer will certainly get the job done, pairing it with a telescopic pole will save you from performing the standard balancing act as you stretch to reach the middle of your pool.

Not only will this pole give you effortless reach to every area of your pool, but it’s perfect for recruiting your kids to help since it can be extended to various lengths to better suit their shorter arms.

Pool Brushes

After skimming the surface, you’ll want to clean the underwater surfaces of your pool, like the walls and floor.

Over time, sediments can cling to these areas and leave your pool feeling slippery and, honestly, unwelcoming!

Brushing the sides and bottom of your pool will help release this sediment so you can vacuum it up, keeping your pool looking and feeling its best.

Better yet, this is a key step in combating the potential growth of algae blooms!

Vacuum – Traditional or Robotic

Vacuuming your pool is the only way to effectively remove any sediment you just loosened on your walls.

While vacuuming your pool is non-negotiable, how you vacuum your pool is up for interpretation!

As technology has advanced, pool vacuums have been the focus of many innovative changes, ringing in the highly coveted robotic vacuum!

Traditional suction side vacuums require some form of manual labor to be most effective, but a robotic vacuum makes vacuuming your pool a completely hands-off process.

All you have to do is drop your robot into the water, and it’ll do the rest, scaling walls as it scrubs and vacuums every inch of your pool’s underwater surface!

What’s more, with the right model, you can even enjoy the power of personalized schedules, allowing you to have your vacuum cleaning your pool while you’re at work!

Safety Pool Cover

Last but not least, a pool cover is something you should always be using when you’re not actively in the water.

Pool covers come in a few different forms, and while some rest on the water to keep debris out and regulate the temperature of your water, we highly recommend investing in one with safety in mind.

Safety covers include locking mechanisms, and stretch taut over the surface of your pool, ensuring no one can fall in accidentally.

If you have small children or pets, this should be your first go-to when it comes time to buy a cover.
