What is a Swim Spa?

To put it simply, a swim spa is the perfect combination of a hot tub and swimming pool. Swim spas offer many of the same benefits of both but in one compact system. You can sit back and relax in an ergonomically-designed seating area, similar to a hot tub, or swim laps with help from the powerful swim jet system, just as you would in a swimming pool.

What’s great about a swim spa is, the advanced swim jet technology eliminates the need for you to pause your swim, turn around and push off of a wall to continue swimming. Instead, the swim jet can be set to a speed/power that meets your individual needs and provide you with an ongoing stream of water to swim against. Practice swimming or get your laps in for the day – without interruption.

Can I Exercise in a Swim Spa?

Yes, you can exercise in a swim spa. In fact, exercise and physical activity is encouraged when you enter your swim spa! Whether you engage the high-powered swim jet system, attach rowing equipment, or simply play a fun game with the family in the open-concept tank area, your swim spa can provide the perfect environment for exercise.

The best part? The buoyancy of the water helps to lift pressure from your body to create a low-impact experience that is both comfortable and healing. But don’t let the feeling of weightlessness have you fooled, the water adds resistance to every move you make, resulting in a workout that is arguably more effective when completed inside the swim spa, than on dry land.

How Big Are Swim Spas?

Larger than hot tubs, yet smaller than your average in-ground swimming pool, Jacuzzi® Swim Spas can range in size from about 186” x 93” x 53” to 222” x 93” x 53”. In other words, swim spas can range from 15 to 18 feet in length, depending on the make and model.

How Much Do Swim Spas Cost?

The cost of a swim spa depends heavily on a variety of factors, including but not limited to brand, model, age, features, and location. On average, a good-to-high-quality swim spa model will start at about $20,000 and can reach $40,000 or more. Please keep in mind that with a swim spa, similar to other large investments in your home and lifestyle, you will always get what you pay for. While it may seem tempting to opt for a model that saves you a couple of thousand dollars, this decision could cost you down the road in repairs, maintenance, or having to purchase a new model entirely.

Before purchasing a swim spa, we always recommend that you first do your research. Consider the different brands available to you, warranty options, available models, or even opting for a used swim spa from a reputable brand. • Hydromassage Jets

Will My Fireplace Hurt My TV?

If a television is hung above a fireplace incorrectly, it may succumb to damage. If a mantel is installed below the television but above the fireplace, heat may be directed away from the television. Other things to take into consideration include a flexible or rotational mount so that you can shift the television to face downward slightly to enhance the viewing experience while having it hung high enough that heat from the fireplace cannot affect it. You can read more about it in this blog post.

How Do I Clean My Patio Furniture?

How you clean your patio furniture will depend on the piece and material. Plastics and metals can be wiped down with a warm, soapy cloth and rinsed with water from a hose or pressure washer. Cushions can be cleaned with a small amount of laundry detergent that is heavily diluted by warm water. Using gloves and a sponge or cloth, scrub the cushions and remove any dirt. Use water from the hose to rinse the cushions and remove any soap, then hang or lay in the sun to dry.

Should I Buy a Pool or Hot Tub?

Deciding between a pool and hot tub can depend on a variety of factors, like your lifestyle, budget, and personal preferences. If you have a large, open-concept backyard layout and are looking for a new approach to recreation, exercise, or entertainment, a swimming pool might be the right solution for you and your family. On the other hand, if stress reduction, eased aches and pains, and relaxation is what you seek, a hot tub might be in the cards for you.

Is professional hot tub service worth it?

For many spa owners, regular service and maintenance from a professional is worth it. Regular service can help to ensure that your spa water is always safe, enjoyable and ready to use. A professional can also use this time to inspect your spa, looking for any issues or potential problem areas that could lead to damage, an imbalance in water or costly repairs, and rectify the situation before it grows into a larger issue.

How long should I stay inside a hot tub for?

How long you stay inside a hot tub for can depend on several deciding factors, including your age, health, climate, water temperature, and personal preference. As a general rule of thumb, it is suggested to soak in a hot tub for anywhere from 15-45 minutes at a temperature of up to 102° F.

If you are new to using a hot tub, we suggest starting with shorter soaks until you gradually build your tolerance, adjust to the environment or find which suits you best. If you have a pre-existing health condition, we suggest that you first speak with your physician to ensure the safest way to enjoy hydrotherapy.

How often should I drain my hot tub?

How often you change your hot tub water can depend greatly on how often the spa is used, the quality of water used to fill it and how well the water is maintained. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend draining, cleaning and refilling the hot tub every three to four months for an optimal operation.

How often should I clean my filter?

A clean and functioning filter is key to an operational filtration system, as it catches and removes dirt and debris, keeping the water clean and free of impurities. We recommend rinsing the filter every two weeks with fresh water from the hose or kitchen sink. You can also use this time to spray it down with a filter cleaner and then continue to rinse.

Filter cleaning nozzles are available that can be attached to the end of a hose, which can help water to better reach the nooks and crannies of your filter. Soak your filter overnight in a bucket filled with water and a small amount of filter cleaner every two months to remove deep-down debris. We recommend replacing your hot tub filter annually to ensure a fully-functional filtration system.

How often should I clean my hot tub?

How often and in what manner you clean your hot tub will depend on two factors: how often the spa is used and the manufacturer.

  • Test your hot tub water with test strips once or twice a week.
  • Treat your hot tub water accordingly based on the readings from the test strips.
  • Clean the filter every two weeks with water from the hose.
  • Drain, clean and fill the hot tub once every three to four months.

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is a therapeutic technique that harnesses the healing properties of water. The combination of heat, buoyancy and massage helps to relax muscles, ease sore joints, improve circulation, and reduce muscle tension. Used by healthcare professionals all around the world, hydrotherapy can help to improve sleep patterns, reduce stress, ease aches and pains, aid in post-injury recovery, and soothe sore joints, among many other health benefits.

The size of your hot tub should reflect your intended use for it. Will it cater to the needs of the entire family? Is it meant just for you and your significant other? Or do you enjoy hosting elaborate backyard parties? Your lifestyle and layout of your backyard can help you determine if you would like to invest in a smaller or larger hot tub.

Should I buy a hot tub?

Making the decision to buy a hot tub is a big one. It’s not something you do every day, after all. Your lifestyle can have a significant impact on the decision to purchase a hot tub. Before making the decision, ask yourself these following questions:

  1. Where in my backyard will I install a hot tub?
  2. Will the hot tub be for my entire family, or just for me?
  3. Will I benefit from fewer aches and pains, better sleep, and reduced stress?
  4. Will I enjoy the convenience of access to hydromassage in the comfort of my own home?
  5. Will my family benefit from the additional family time in the spa?
