- Turn off Pump by flipping the on/off switch off at the post by your pool or on the back of the pump motor itself, if applicable.
- Rotate the multiport on top of the sand filter to the backwash position.
- Make sure a backwash hose is clamped to a hose adapter fitting in the waste port on the multiport on top of the sand filter (the multiport may be on the side in some in-ground applications).
- Run the backwash hose to an area of the yard that will drain downhill or into a sewer drain.
- Turn the pump motor on by flipping the on/off switch off at the post by your pool or on the back of the pump motor itself, if applicable.
- Now that the water is pumping out the backwash hose attached to the waste line of the multiport, keep running the pump with the multiport set to backwash until the sight glass on the side of the waste line on the multiport (often indicated by “waste” molded around the hose fitting on the waste port) turns from dirty water to clear water or watch the water coming out of the end of the backwash hose until it is clear.
- Turn off the pump by flipping the on/off switch off at the post by your pool or on the back of the pump motor itself, if applicable.
- Rotate the multiport handle from backwash to rinse.
- Turn the pump back on by flipping the on/off switch off at the post by your pool or on the back of the pump motor itself, if applicable.
- Run the pump for 20-30 seconds.
- Turn the pump off by flipping the on/off switch off at the post by your pool or on the back of the pump motor itself, if applicable.
- Rotate the multiport handle on top of the sand filter from rinse back to filter.
- Turn the pump back on by flipping the on/off switch off at the post by your pool or on the back of the pump motor itself, if applicable.
- Resume a normal filtration cycle, at least 12-16 hours a day.
